A 2025 network meta analysis reviewed 30 randomized controlled trials, involving 2,514 patients, to compare acupuncture methods with sodium hyaluronate eye drops for dry eye disease. Overall, acupuncture outperformed eye drops. Fascia release acupuncture combined with traditional acupuncture showed the strongest improvements in tear production and tear film stability, while electroacupuncture ranked highest for overall effectiveness. These findings suggest acupuncture may offer broader, longer lasting support for dry eye symptoms than artificial tears alone.
