The Journal of Advanced Research published a study revealing the neuroprotective mechanisms of electroacupuncture for cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury. Electroacupuncture administered at GV20 (Baihui) using a $2/10$ Hz dense-disperse wave significantly improved neurological outcomes. The therapy mitigated injury by suppressing PKM2-mediated lactate accumulation, which subsequently reduced H4K12 lactylation. This epigenetic modulation inhibited ZIP14 expression, effectively preventing neuronal ferroptosis. Clinically, electroacupuncture also decreased arterial lactate levels in stroke patients post-recanalization.
