Acupuncture as an Adjunct to Physiotherapy in Post-Stroke Spastic Hand

The Cureus Journal of Medical Science published a comparative case series evaluating acupuncture as an adjunct to physiotherapy for post-stroke spastic hand. Twice-weekly needling at Shixuan (EX-UE11), SI3, and SI4 prior to stretching produced greater gains in FMA-UE total scores (25.5 vs. 14.3) and motor function (14.3 vs. 7.6), with notable improvements in hand function and joint pain. Sequencing acupuncture before stretching may enhance motor relearning and reduce pain-related inhibition during rehabilitation.

Patient-friendly: A study published in the Cureus Journal of Medical Science examined acupuncture added to physical therapy for post-stroke hand spasms.
